Valle d'Aosta by snowshoes
Do you want to tackle a simple hike in unspoiled environment, walking on snow with snowshoes ? Pointe de la Pierre (2653 meters of altitude) is your target or at least a part of the path that climbs to the top.
This mountain is located above Ozein, a little village laid down on a natural terrace above the Aymavilles village, where the groove of Cogne valley starts. This natural terrace was left by the huge prehistoric Balteo glacier during its shrinkage.
Some little dirt roads go up on flanks of Pointe de la Pierre through forests and reaching shelters used during the summer by shepherds which are looking after cows scattered across pastures.
But in the winter this environment changes completely. It is lonely, covered by snow and ice in a surreal atmosphere. We would say that it is a Canadian environment, where you can walk for hours without encountering anyone but wild animals or their tracks in the snow.
Walking with snowshoes on those chilly and little dirt roads completely white, you have always a fantastic landscape on the bottom of Valle d’Aosta and on Grand Nomenon (3488 meters) and Grivola (3969 meters), two gorgeous peaks in the Gran Paradiso group.
At any rate believe us when we say that if you have the opportunity to be in this environment during sunset, you will be amazed by a landscape that will remain in your heart forever !
