First evidences of Urbino date back to 90 B.C., but the more important history of this city was during the Medieval and Renaissance period. Especially during the Renaissance period, art improved greatly leaving nowadays gorgeous monuments, paintings and sculptures.

In any case Urbino is surely a city that will overwhelm you for its unique beauty ! There are many gorgeous things worth visiting. So you should spend at least two day in this city located in Marche region.

BBofItaly.it suggests you to visit four major sites. Palazzo Ducale built by Federico da Montefeltro dates back to year 1445 and it is really amazing. Nowadays it is home to some museums and musical, artistic events.

Its architecture is characterized by the presence of two slim towers that can be visited, giving you a splendid view on Urbino. Inside the palace it is also worth visiting the little studio of Federico da Montefeltro, still in the original style. This gorgeous corner of the building was decorated by Flemish artists.

The first evidences of Urbino Cathedral built close to Palazzo Ducale, date back to year 1021. It is as large as the former Renaissance Cathedral completely destroyed by the earthquake on the year 1789 and nowadays is an example of neoclassic architecture.

It is really a fantastic experience to visit the gorgeous Oratorio di San Giovanni Battista. Its origins date back to year 1365. Inside this building you can still observe frescoes with unbelievable colours, which describe religious scenes. These paintings are gothic in style.

Last but not least is Oratorio di San Giuseppe characterized by the presence of a fantastic church and its sacristy. It dates back to year 1503 but starting from year 1682 it was completely rebuilt because the humidity destroyed part of the former building.
