Testa Bernarda - Valle D'Aosta
We at BBofItaly did a hike that wasn’t too challenging but had a gorgeous view of Mont Blanc range. Furthermore we had this experience in the fall season when the colours are fantastic.
Testa Bernarda is a 2533 meters high and it is located on the watershed of Val Ferret that is exactly opposite to the Grand Jorasses side of Mont Blanc range. The path to reach this site is easy.
It begins from Val Ferret and calmly gains altitude through a wonderful pine forest with unbelievable yellow and orange colours. From here you can observe the massif of Mont Blanc.
You can also see the mighty Peuterey ridge, with its unmistakable Aiguille Noire (Black Peak). This is the longest ridge present in the European mountains and it is very challenging to climb.
At the base of the Mont Blanc massif, on the Brenva glacier side, the huge spur called La Poire can be observed. Two big glaciers called “meringues” are hung on this rocky beam shaped like a pear.
When the path to Testa Bernarda leaves the pine forest, you are very close to the Bertone shelter. Here there is a natural balcony from which you can enjoy a gorgeous landscape on the Mont Blanc massif. A one of a kind experience !
From Bertone shelter you can easily reach the ridge towards Testa Bernarda and following the path, you can enjoy a unique view of Grand Jorasses range, merged in a pristine environment with fall colours.
