Termoli - Molise

If you are fond of seaside, beautiful villages, wonderful beaches, tasty gastronomy and tanning, Termoli will make your holidays.

This little city is nothing short of remarkable and it is located in Campobasso district of Molise. It should be underlined that the latter is the smallest region in Italy after Valle d’Aosta, and as often happens in these little lands the quality of life is fantastic.

The origins of Termoli date back to prehistoric era. In the medieval period under the dominion of Ducato di Benevento, Termoli had its defensive walls characterized by the presence of towers, one of which called Torre Tornola is still present. Then over the years the village was under the dominion of several powerful families, until the contemporary era.

The Svevo castle is the most notable building in Termoli. It seems its origins date back to the period in which the village was under the Norman rule. The castle was refurbished as we see it nowadays during the dominion of Federico II di Svevia – year 1240.

The cathedral of Termoli, named Cattedrale di Santa Maria della Purificazione, is also one of the most important buildings. Of Romanesque style, it was built on the highest point of the Termoli promontory. Definitely it worth visiting !

When it comes to the food, in Termoli you can find a very tasty gastronomy, based mainly on ancient typical recipes which obviously use fresh fish. So don’t miss “U vredette” a fresh fish soup, “Sécce e ‘pisille” cuttlefish with peas, “I pulepe ‘mbregatorie” octopus in purgatory and many others. Speaking of wine don’t forget to taste the “underwater” wines, aged in the darkness and depths of the see, with constant temperature and pressure. A must for your palate !

Last but not least we at Best & Beauty of Italy suggest you to spend some of your stay in Termoli, strolling along alleys, enjoying the beauty and tranquillity of this little city. This experience will surely make your days !
