Sant'Orso Fair - BBofItaly

Sant’Orso fair

Fiera di Sant'Orso - Valle D'Aosta

The most important and famous event in Valle d’Aosta is the Sant’Orso fair. It falls every year on January 30th and 31st and is organized along the main streets of Aosta city, where small benches are placed.

First evidences of San’Orso fair dates back a thousand years. It was the place where goods trade off took place, but also where people had the opportunity to meet and deal business each other.

At the fair, agricultural products, handicrafts items and tools for agricultural work were exhibited, but over the centuries it has been mainly focused on handicraft wooden items (some of which are real works of art – here below you can see some pictures of them), and also on gastronomic specialities (local wine and food).

What has remained unchanged however is the opportunity for locals to meet and deal business each other. The big pleasure for us of BBofItaly.it has been therefore strolling through the streets of the fair accompanied by two people from Aosta, Silvana and Ezio.

These two friend of ours are deeply rooted in their land and its traditions and have great relationship with locals, which is why while strolling through the fair, they stopped several times to meet their friends, chatting with them using the local idiom called patoué.

This has been a great experience, because it gave us the opportunity to feel the texture of this society that lives in a fantastic small Italian region surrounded by the highest mountains in Europe.

Therefore we are thankful to Silvana and Ezio, two fantastic guys with whom we have spent an unforgettable day ! Really Silvana and Ezio made our day !
