Santo Stefano di Sessanio - Abruzzo
BBOI team has found this incredible small village in the middle of Gran Sasso National Park, sited in Abruzzo.
Of course we are talking about one of the most amazing village in Italy, but not so well known! Santo Stefano di Sessanio is located below the vast Campo Imperatore plain at an altitude of 1200 meters. This little hamlet exists since 1200, it has its origin in the middle ages, later it became a posession of the great Medici Family. Under the guidance of Francesco de Medici this village experienced a period of splendor thanks to the production of wool for military uniforms.
Today, Santo Stefano di Sessanio is a point of cultural and artistic interest, indeed lots of events are organized during summer like literary and artistic exhibitions!
We cannot failed to mention the gastronomy as well, this village is famous for its lentils: small, dark and with a thin skin which makes it very tender, so good during winter in a delicious soup. Here you can find small shops where you can buy typical products of Abruzzo and nice restaurants hidden in every alley.
BBOI team suggests you to go to visit this unknown and ancient hamlet with so much history and culture to offer. In the pictures below you can see some glimpses of Santo Stefano di Sessanio, enjoy them!
