Roveresca Fortress - Marche
Mondavio is an hamlet located in Marche region, more exactly in the district of Pesaro – Urbino. Its first evidence dates back to 1178 on a very ancient document. It was under the dominion of several very powerful family and among them it is worth remembering Malatesta, Della Rovere and Medici.
Among its numerous monuments, the most imposing is the Rocca Roveresca (Roveresca fortress) which dominates the hamlet with its mighty structure. This building was designed by Francesco di Giorgio Martini during the year 1482 at the behest of the Dukes Della Rovere.
You can visit the Rocca Roveresca and believe us at BBofItaly, this is an experience not to be missed ! Furthermore inside the building, on the top of the main tower, you can find a small museum with ancient weapons used by soldiers to defend the hamlet.
The fortress was a real “war machine” capable to withstanding any enemy attack and it was a strong symbol of the power of Della Rovere dynasty.
