Rifugio Frassati - Valle D'Aosta
In Valle D’Aosta region there is a shelter named Rifugio Frassati located in the fantastic Comba de Merdeux. This is a lateral valley of Valle del Gran San Bernardo, that goes to the famous Passo del Gran San Bernardo close to the French Switzerland border.
Comba de Merdeux ends in a gorgeous place surrounded by very high peaks with sharp shapes and among these peaks Passo del Malatrà is located (2925 meters).
Crossing this pass it is possible to enter in Vallone del Malatrà where a breathtaking Mont Blanc landscape can be observed. Vallone del Malatrà is a lateral valley reachable also from Val Ferret located in the final part of Valle D’Aosta region close to the tunnel for Chamonix (France).
Going up through Comba de Merdeux, Alpeggio Tza de Merdeux (2273 meters) is present. During the summer here there is a big number of cows herding high altitude grass and of course with the milk the Valle D’Aosta Fontina cheese is done then seasoned in the Alpeggio cellar.
Going further inside the Comba de Merdeux it is possible to get the Rifugio Frassati (2540 meters), located close the Lac de Merdeux in a gorgeous grassy area surrounded by fantastic peaks.
This shelter has not a conventional shape and its style is unusual and modern. It is managed by Mato Grosso association, which takes care of poor populations. So any money gained running the shelter is devolved for these populations.
Going further up the Passo del Malatrà can be reached, entering then in Vallone del Malatrà as previously said.
