Rifugio degli Angeli - Valle D'Aosta
Rifugio degli Angeli in English means Angels’ Shelter. This name come from the particular position of this building. It is located in Valgrisenche – Valle d’Aosta – at 2916 meters of altitude, very close to Testa del Rutor, a peak high 3486 meters and encompassed by Ghiacciaio del Rutor.
Spending a night at Rifugio degli Angeli is an unforgettable experience. First of all because this building is immersed in a harsh and pristine environment. Secondly because it is run by very young people belonging to an association called Operazione Mato Grosso aimed to help people of Mato Grosso in Brazil.
This means that all the money coming from Rifugio degli Angeli or other similar activities are used for poor people in South America.
The path to this shelter starts from the road upstream of the dam wall present in Valgrisenche (a little bit further from Bone hamlet). It climbs up into a side valley named Arp Vieille and never presents particular difficulties. At the end of this valley it is possible to observe the fantastic Forcola del Bré, a pass located at an altitude very close to 3000 meters.
Along this path you have the opportunity to see wonderful landscapes, the major mountains and glaciers located in Valgrisenche. At Rifugio degli Angeli you will have a very warm welcome and you will find tasty food. If desired you can climb further reaching the top of Testa del Rutor. Of course you must be roped with a companion and use the necessary equipment (crampons, ice axe).
