Resegone mountain - Lombardia
In the past we at BBofItaly have tried to reach the top of Resegone mountain but without success. In that case we stopped at Capanna Monza (see item “Capanna Monza” in “Places to go” section of BBofItaly.it). Of course our aim was the top of Resegone and so we decided for another better organized attempt.
Before to describe this new adventure, let’s thank Luisa, our companion. She has been wonderful, with perfect pace and strongly minded for the goal. These are indispensable characteristics when there is a challenging path to climb !
But now let’s get into the adventure. From Capanna Monza the path goes up in the forest reaching at the end the natural gate of Valnegra gulley (also known as Val Nigra). In this point the path finishes and you have only boulders in front of you. It’s time to put your hiking poles in the rucksack and start using also hands to climb.
The gulley is very steep and narrow. In some points it is more or less 1.5 – 2 meters large. Its lateral and vertical walls are very high and the environment is awesome, characterized by several rocky pinnacles. Something unbelievable that makes you beside yourself !
Going up you can see the Rifugio Azzoni located at the end of the gulley. It seems close, but you must climb still a lot to get it and the effort is big. Let’s say that we can classify this path as 100% hiking difficulties, but of course from an alpinist point of view it is really simple and easy. So if you are used to rocky paths this experience is fantastic, but remember you must be well trained because your muscles will exert a considerable effort ! Furthermore the attention must be high because falling on those boulders could be fatal.
Rifugio Azzoni is located at an altitude of 1860 meters, just below the top of Resegone known as Punta Cermenati (1875 meters of altitude). From the highest peak the landscape is awesome. Something you absolutely cannot miss !
