Punta Leysser - Valle D'Aosta
Punta Leysser is a 2771 meters high mountain, located on the watershed between Vetan (a tiny hamlet) side and Vallone di Vertosan a large side valley of Valle del Gran San Bernardo which runs to the border with the French part of Switzerland.
The 360° landscape visible from the top of Punta Leysser is awesome. You can observe Grivola and Gran Paradiso, Monte Bianco but also Grand Jorasses, Gran San Bernardo mountains, Grand Combin and Monte Rosa.
Very close to Punta Leysser is Mont Fallère (3061 meters of altitude) and Monte Rosso di Vertosan, a 2943 meters high peak that could be a new target for one of the next adventures of BBofItaly.it
We woke up “when rooster crows at break of dawn”, and reached Vetan by car. Here the path to Punta Leysser begins. First part of this path is a dirt road used by several Alpeggi located in that area.
When you arrive at Alpeggio Grand Arpilles, Punta Leysser is exactly in front of you. From this point on there is not a specific path, but only high altitude meadows to cross. The walk is not difficult but tiring because very steep. First you reach the foresummit and then in few minutes your feet are on top of Punta Leysser where there is a big cross.
The environment is pristine and savage with a lot of big crows flying around the summit and that of Monte Rosso di Vertosan. As told the landscape is unbelievable, and it is worth the effort done.
