Pizzo d'Uccello - Lunigiana
Close to Equi Terme a spa village in Lunigiana land (Toscana region), there is a tiny valley called Solco di Equi. This valley has ancient glacial origins, is very narrow with vertical walls and is spectacular ! In some points it is really carved in the rocks, so walking through Solco di Equi, is a unique experience.
While hiking along Solco di Equi, Pizzo d’Uccello appears to the sight. This is a breathtaking landscape, especially because the path goes below the north wall of this mountain, a 800 meters of pure vertical overhang ! Pizzo d’Uccello belonging to Alpi Apuane chain, is not a so high mountain (only 1781 meters), but the view of its north wall is gorgeous and absolutely cannot be missed.
Close to Equi Termi characterized also by the presence of very ancient and natural caves that can be visited, is located Gragnola where on the top of a hill there is Castello dell’Aquila. This castle has been recently restored and the landscape with Castello dell’Aquila and the north wall of Pizzo d’Uccello as background is fantastic. In medieval period the castle was under the control of Malaspina mighty family, but its origins are not clear and certain (maybe around XIII century).
Gragnola has not particular characteristics, but the presence of Villa Giulia B&B makes it special. Hence this unimaginable B&B is a fantastic point where you can rest in the evening after having visited the beauty of Lunigiana land.
