Palazzo Vertemate - Lombardia
Prosto is a little village near the border between Lombardia region and Switzerland. Of course it is surrounded by very high peaks of central Alps range and it is characterized by the presence of a particular ancient palace, named PalazzoVertemate (Vertemate palace).
Prosto is crossed by two communication routes that connect northern Italy and Europe which were very important in the past. In fact close to this village there are two important passes, one called Spluga (2114 meters high) and the other called Maloja (1815 meters high).
As it happens in borderlands, also Prosto has been crossed by very important politicians, personalities and businessmen. For these reasons Guglielmo and Luigi of the very powerful and wealthy Vertemate Franchi family, built the palace during the second part of XVI century.
The external architecture of the building, is very simple and looking at it you cannot imagine the beauty of the interior of the palace, surrounded by a wonderful but not very large garden merged in forests and meadows with chestnut trees.
Ground floor of the building is characterized by the presence of rooms used to welcome people, the first floor was intended for rooms used during the day and the second one was for bedrooms.
Rooms are characterized by frescoes and valuable wooden decorations and ceilings. Visiting Palazzo Vertemate, you can appreciate the skill of craftsmen called not only from Prosto but from all over Italy, to build and decorate this one of a kind palace.
