Padula - Campania
In the district of Salerno – Campania region – there is a wonderful village called Padula. It is particular not only for its beauty and the land in which it is located, but also because Giuseppe Petrosino – known in the USA as Joe Petrosino – was born there.
Petrosino left his village at a very young age, headed for New York city where he worked in the Police department, defining new methods of investigation against the organized crime.
Petrosino’s work as a policeman was very successful and for this he became a hero. If you want to know more about this story, a museum dedicated to this famous character has been set up in the Petrosino family home.
Padula is located in a special territory called Vallo di Diano with a fantastic natural environment, wonderful villages and a great gastronomic heritage. Visiting Vallo di Diano is a unique experience, which will allow you to discover the richness of this part of southern Italy.
Near Padula it is also worth visiting the gorgeous Certosa di San Lorenzo. Nowadays it houses an archeological museum, but its origins date back to year 1306 at the behest of Tommaso Sanseverino lord of Vallo di Diano. The building was updated over the years until 19th century, but the most important transformations were made during the 16th century.
