Otro valley is a side valley of Valsesia which starts from Alagna Valsesia, the last town at the foot of Monte Rosa. This valley was colonized by the Walser since the fourteenth century, creating 6 small villages.
The Otro valley certainly represents one of the most beautiful places in the Alagna area because it enjoys an exceptional view of the Valsesia valley and Monte Rosa.
For this reason, at the beginning of the 1900s a hotel was built in a panoramic point of the Otro valley, which then took the name of Otro Belvedere (viewpoint), located at 1890 meters above sea level. This hotel collapsed following a fire in 1970.
From this point you can enjoy a spectacular view of the entire Monte Rosa massif and on a clear day you can also see Capanna Margherita.
In the 60s/70s a single-seater cable car was also built which directly connected the central square of Alagna Valsesia with the Otro viewpoint. During the winter season, in fact, 4 lifts were available in the Otro valley for skiing.
This cable car was the victim of a tragic accident in 1971 and its remains have lain abandoned ever since.
The belvedere of Otro is a suggestive excursion destination that offers an exceptional panorama of Monte Rosa and allows you to be catapulted into the past by observing the remains of the hotel and the cable car.
