Mulazzo - Toscana
If you are after something that makes your day, you cannot miss Mulazzo a little fantastic hamlet located in Lunigiana land – district of Massa Carrara – near the border with Liguria regions.
Mulazzo is perched on a hill and is close to Val Magra. Its origins date back to copper era and it is encompassed by beautiful forests. In its territory some Statue Stele have been discovered.
These ancient sculptures made by big stones, do not have well known origins but date back to before Medieval period. Statue Stele are nowadays collected inside the incredible castle of Pontremoli village, not so far from Mulazzo.
Since 1164 the hamlet was a fief ruled by Malaspina powerful family very present in Lunigiana land and around the first decade of 1300 year, the so famous poet Dante Alighieri was hosted within its walls.
During XIX century, the Medieval story of Mulazzo ends, and the village falls under the Granducato di Toscana with others minor hamlets whom surrounded Mulazzo itself.
In Mulazzo is present the Torre di Dante, first and very old tower of the hamlet. It was encompassed by walls of a castle. During the XVII century the tower was strengthened with new defensive measures due to the Spanish war in Lunigiana. At the end of XVIII century, the tower was demolished, and nowadays only the ruins remain.
