Montagnana - Veneto
In Padova distric of Veneto region, lies the gorgeous village of Montagnana. Its origins date back to the era of Roman Empire, but of course it then had deep transformations during the Medieval and Renaissance periods.
The village is encompassed by well-preserved Medieval walls with battlements and towers located on the main corners and parts. Montagana is also characterized by the main following monuments.
Duomo di (Cathedral of) Santa Maria Assunta is located in the central square of the village and it dates back to year 1431. The building is characterized by late Gothic architecture with a Renaissance influences. Inside you can admire precious paintings and frescoes.
Palazzo Magnavin Foratti (palace) dates back to XV century. It is characterized by a fantastic façade and has the beautiful Venetian style.
Porta (Gate of) Legnago also known as Rocca degli Alberi (Trees Fortress) is integrated in Montagana’s walls. It is mighty and dates back to year 1360. This Fortress was built for defensive purposes against the numerous assaults of the Scaligeri on the village.
Castello di (Castle of) San Zeno is the oldest part of the village and dates back to XIII century. It has a central building protected by two big towers. In the Middle Ages it was used to gather and house the army.
