Mont de l'Arp Vieille - Valle D'Aosta
We at BBofItaly were so eager to get the top of Mont de l’Arp Vieille (2963 meters high), because from this position it is possible to have a view on a gorgeous landscape that encompasses unbelievable glaciers and very high mountains.
Mont de l’Arp Vieille is on the watershed between Vallone di San Grato and Vallone dell’Arp Vieille. These are two lateral valleys of the greater Valgrisenche in Valle d’Aosta region. Valgrisenche is also called with the nickname “little Canada” for its beauty and wilderness.
There are not objective difficulties to get the top of Mont de l’Arp Vieille. Only the last part of the path wings through big boulders that sometimes have to be overcome by climbing easily.
Unique real difficulty is find out the right path, which in several parts is not well marked. But the top of the mountain is always visible so if you have some experience in hiking activities, you should find out the right direction for your goal !
From the top of Mont de l’Arp Vieille the view is fantastic. Very close to your position there is Testa del Rutor, a 3486 meters high mountain. Between it and Mont de l’Arp Vieille there is Forcola del Bre a savage pass used during the former world wars to control the France border. Close to Testa del Rutor it is possible to observe the front edge of Rutor glacier.
Looking across the Valgrisenche it is possible to observe the mighty Grande Rousse (altitude of 3607 meters) with its glaciers, and also the head of Valgrisenche on the border with France where the fantastic and very vast Gliairetta glacier is located.
