Lago Rotondo - Lombardia
Prealps of Lombardia region are truly gorgeous, and the rocky area of Pizzo dei Tre Signori range is one of a kind even if it is not characterized by very high peaks ! The perimeter of this range winds along three different district: Sondrio, Bergamo and Lecco.
Pizzo dei Tre Signori is not very far from Valtellina valley thus from the Switzerland border. This area is characterized by the presence of several lakes. Lago Rotondo is one of these and it is located in an unbelievable and pristine environment.
Of course if you want to reach pristine areas like that of Lago Rotondo, you have to walk a lot, and in fact we had an hiking of more or less 20 kilometres (back and forth) and 1200 meters of level to overcome.
Our adventure started from Pescegallo zone, located at the end of the road that winds along Val Gerola. First part of the path climbs the flank of Pizzo di Tronella and turns in the Valle della Pietra.
From this valley you can admire Pizzo di Trona 2510 meters high, the second highest peak in altitude, first is Pizzo dei Tre Signori with its 2554 meters. The path winds along Valle della Pietra and reaches Lago di Trona.
Close to this lake there is a cross with another path that enters into Valle di Trona, a savage valley at the end of which there is our target ! Hiking through Valle di Trona you encounter Lago di Zancone characterized by very clear water with an incredible colour and shimmering little lights on its surface due to the sun reflection.
From this lake you can easily reach the final part of the valley, where the path become very steep and winds up among huge boulders up to the natural basin where Lago Rotondo is located.
This last stretch overcomes a difference in altitude of more or less 400 meters, and you have to endeavour if you want to get your goal ! At the end of this stretch there is another world and in our case the surprise was the Lago Rotondo covered in ice and snow, merged in a pristine and gorgeous environment.
It is difficult to described this environment in words. You absolutely must visit it !
