Lago Nero - Nivolet
In the Southern part of Valle d’Aosta, very close to Gran Paradiso mountain (4061 meters) there is the gorgeous Vallone del Nivolet, which starts from the terminal part of Valsavarenche and reaches Colle del Nivolet located on the border with Piemonte region.
Vallone del Nivolet is located at an altitude of more or less 2400 meters, and on its west flank at an altitude of 2750 meters, there is Lago Nero.
The path to get this target is not difficult and the level to be overcome is more or less 750 meters. So far the passage where Vallone del Nivolet must be left to go up toward Lago Nero, is the unique zone that requires attention because of the presence of a landslide. Maybe it will be fixed up in the near future. Hence nowadays you do need a little bit of acquaintance and experience to hike on a path that could be dangerous. But when this zone has been overcome, the landscape and the environment become breathtaking.
High altitude meadows are populated by animals and completely covered with flowers during the early summer and bunches of Stelle Alpine can be found among them. This astonishing kind of flower is very rare and normally grows up where the soil is made up of limestone.
Lago Nero is embedded among several peaks more or less of 3000 meters of altitude and the environment is fantastic with unbelievable colours. Not so far from it are present several others lakes and also Colle Leynir (3100 meters) whence the top of Monte Taou Blanc (3438 meters) can be reached. Here the landscape is unbelievable !
