Lago Lungo – Lago Morto

Lago Morto (2843 meters) and Lago Lungo (2720 meters) are located in Valpelline, where there is the huge Place Moulin dam, full of deep green water. Valpelline is in Vale D’Aosta region and it is very long ad savage. Its end is closed by the Grandes Murailles glacier and behind this glacier there is the well known Matterhorn. The path to get the Lago Lungo and the Lago Morto starts from the dam where there is a car parking (2000 meters). This path is not difficult but gains altitude very quickly, allowing to watch the high Vallone di Livournea where a tiny lake is located. Vallone di Livournea is above the flank of Place Moulin lake. Lago Lungo has wonderful colours and an elongated shape, but the best view comes with the Lago Morto. It is located in a little valley surrounded by peaks high more than 3000 meters. The environment is hard and savage. The colours of the Lago Morto are incredible. They change from deep black to green and blue under the different sky lights. Something that cannot be forgotten!
