La torretta / Punta della torretta
The Portofino promontory offer some of the most magnificent diving sites of Italy. Some of the sites are situated in a protected marine park area that permit to preserve the marine species and always offer a spectacular views.
“La torretta” or “Punta della torretta” dive is located more or less at the tip that defines the western limit of the San Fruttuoso inlet. It is so called because of a sixteenth-century construction built for the sighting of Ottoman pirate ships.
Along the coast, the rocky wall appears extremly vertical and descend underwater for about 18-20 meters. At that deepth it is possible to find a sort of terrace covered with algae and oceanic posidonia.
This dive offers a wonderful sightseen, expecially when clear water is found. Groupers, Salpe and brown damselfish can be found in shoals. It is also possible to admire spirographs, anemones and Red Gorgonians.
