Introd - Valle D'Aosta
Introd is a tiny wonderful hamlet, located close to the boundary of Valle d’Aosta central part, whence the last part also called Valdigne starts.
The village is on the top of a hill where the southern Valsavarenche and Val di Rhemes converge and let’s say that this is a breathtaking location with a gorgeous surrounding landscape.
Introd is characterized by the presence of a fantastic castle, built on the top of the hill, close to the village church. Its origins date back to around XII century as a fortress, then during the year 1260 it was updated by Pierre Sariod and in the nineties it has been completely refurbished.
The Introd castle is a private estate owned by Conti Caracciolo di Brienza family, but it is managed by the administration of the village and therefore it can be visited.
Close to the castle it is present the village church – Chiesa della Conversione di San Paolo – dating back around to year 1170. This church has Romanesque origins and the bell tower could be the unique part unchanged. The last updating of the church dates back to year 1904. As happen in several Italian mountain villages, close to the church is present the tiny cemetery of Introd, which dominates a spectacular landscape.
If you are around Introd, don’t miss to have a lunch at Maison Argentier (www.maisonargentier.it) where Nicola and Raffaella will welcome you warmly, also with splendid and tasty local cured meat and cheeses. Among these last don’t absolutely forget to taste Argentier cheese done with an ancient recipe and also Panna con Mirtilli (milk cream with blueberries) !
