Portofino promontory
Il faro
The Portofino promontory offer some of the most magnificent diving sites of Italy. Some of the sites are situated in a protected marine park area that permit to preserve the marine species and always offer a spectacular views.
“Il faro” dive is characterized by a rocky bottom with big rocks leaning against each other. Their surfaces are covered by algae and sometimes by oceanic Posidonia.
The particular type of the sea bottom that is created with these big rocks offers different views and ways to explore them and it is possible to find lairs of large groupers, white breams and small red damselfish.
The location of the dive, at the tip of the promontory, make it subject to medium-strong currents. In this condition it is possible to cross schools of pelagic fish of medium or large size, consisting mainly of amberjacks, often quite young and of small size, called in this case lemon fish.
