Gole del Sagittario - Abruzzo
Located in Abruzzo region – Aquila district – Gole del Sagittario (Sagittario gorges) represent a scary and at the same time gorgeous environment carved out by the Sagittario river.
In this land several wild animals, like wolves and bears, find their appropriate habitat. Gole del Sagittario are also characterised by the presence of Eremo di San Domenico (San Domenico hermitage).
The location of this little building is amazing. You can get there by a small bridge that crosses the Sagittario river and from there you can enjoy a fantastic view of this naturalistic beauty.
The Eremo di San Domenico was originally (year 1000) a little cave in the mountain used by San Domenico di Sora. During the XV century it was developed in a small chapel.
The latter is characterised by a porch built during the XVII century and over the years it has been enriched with several frescoes and paintings. In the surrounding area there is also the possibility of going for some very interesting hiking, which we at BBofItay warmly suggest !
