Fortezza di Bardi - Emilia Romagna
Bardi is located in Parma district, a city in Emilia Romagna region. The hamlet is in Valle del Ceno, a valley in which the Ceno stream runs starting from Monte Penna (1736 meters of altitude) and merges into Taro river where Valle del Ceno meets Valle del Taro.
This area has a fantastic environment and it is located in the Appennino Tosco – Emiliano – Ligure a part of Apennine chain close to the border between Emilia Romagna – Toscana – Liguria regions. It is characterized by low mountains, hills and meadows never crowded. Some parts of this area are very lonely with many wild animals in the forests. If you have an off road car, you can also reach some tiny hamlets still inhabited and hidden in remote areas.
Bardi is characterized by an awesome fortress named Fortezza di Bardi. This ancient building is on a huge rocky spur, which dominates Valle del Ceno in the point where torrent Noveglia merges in Ceno stream. It must be underlined that Fortezza di Bardi is perfectly preserved and maintained. So visiting this building you can have a unique “medieval” experience that you cannot miss !
First evidences of Fortezza di Bardi also known as Fortezza di Landi, date back to IX century, and the building passed under the control of several powerful families, as it was usual in those periods. However the most important story of Fortezza di Bardi was under the domain of Landi family who developed the building, transforming it into a huge fortress that we can visit nowadays.
The sightseeing inside the fortress is well organized. You can do it using a brochure with which all the major parts of Fortezza di Bardi can be visited. In this brochure there are also all the detailed descriptions of these parts. Or even a tourist guide can escort a small group of people, describing all the fortress secrets.
The oldest part of Fortezza di Bardi is a Mastio which of course can be visited. Mastio is a big tower with very strong walls and around it the fortress was built over the centuries and especially when the building was under the domain of Landi family.
Among the several parts of fortress you can also see the one called Sale dei Principi, whit halls used by the aristocracy, and the very long patrol aisles on the top of the building, from which you have an awesome view of the surrounding landscape.
In a nutshell BBofItaly thinks that this sort of experience is unique and obviously we suggest to do it if you are fond of medieval castles and fortresses !
Last but not least if you want to spend a night in Bardi, remember B&B Ca del Grano where you can find good hospitality, fantastic rooms and an unforgettable breakfast.
