Fallere shelter - Valle D'Aosta

Rifugio Fallere (Fallere shelter) is located in an amazing part of Valle d’Aosta region called Vallone di Vetan. This secondary valley is easily accessible starting from Vetan hamlet and it is close to the border with Valle del Gran San Bernardo (Gran San Bernardo Valley).

Mont Fallere (3061 meters of altitude) is one of the highest mountains present on this border and it overhangs the shelter. The person in charge to manage Fallere shelter is also an artist, very capable with wooden sculptures.

So climbing along the path that stretches from Vetan hamlet to the shelter, it possible to admire many of these wonderful sculptures representing popular characters doing their job or even animals.

Siro Viérin is the father of these sculptures, and manager of Fallere shelter. This character is worth meeting and surely you will have this opportunity visiting the shelter.

Vallone di Vetan, is a fantastic secondary valley dominated mainly by Mont Fallere and Monte Rosso di Vertosan. Getting to this area and to the Fallere shelter is not difficult. Leaving the Vetan hamlet, the path crosses a little forest and then it runs along fantastic meadows with unbelievable landscapes of Grivola mountain and Val di Rhemes, Valsavarenche, Valle di Cogne.

We at BBofItaly lived this experience during spring season, not with a good weather condition and still some snow present at high altitude. Reached Fallere shelter we continued along the path towards Fenetre pass (2728 meters), but we didn’t succeed due to the presence of a lot of snow. At any rate being immersed in that white world with absolute silence, was a unique experience !
