Colle di Belleface - Valle D'Aosta
Never heard about Grivola ? This is an overwhelming mountain high 3969 meters and it is on the border of Parco Nazionale del Gran Paradiso – Valle d’Aosta region. More exactly it is located on Valsavarenche and Valle di Cogne watershed.
Grivola with its glaciers is astonishing and also the surrounding environment is staggering. Between the end of its North-West ridge and the Grand Nomenon peak (3488 meters high), there is a fantastic pass called Colle di Belleface, not so simply reachable also due to its altitude which is of 3095 meters. Must be underlined that North-West ridge of Grivola is shaped like a knife blade with very steep flanks hence it is fantastic.
The not simple path which must not be understated, starts from Valsavarenche and after more than five and a half hours of walking you get Colle di Belleface. Its opposite flank plunges steeply into Vallone del Nomenon on the side of Valle di Cogne.
From the pass the landscape and environment are staggering. On the horizon you can observe Monte Cervino (4478 meters high) and Monte Rosa massive (4634 meters high). Furthermore above your head you have some limestone peaks and the incredible North-West ridge of Grivola with its highest top.
