Col du Mont - Valle D'Aosta
Valgrisenche also known as little Canada, is a unique alpine environment in Valle d’Aosta region. This is truly a savage valley which will leave you intense and unforgettable feelings. The final border of Valgrisenche is with France.
Of course life spent in this site has its downsides especially during the winter, but it is a strong experience that should be lived. Valgrisenche also has several glaciers and is surrounded by peaks that exceed 3000 meters of level. This characteristic makes this environment gorgeous.
Along Valgrisenche there is a minor lateral valley where the Grandalpe torrent flows. This valley has a unique beauty, and its watershed is on the border with France. On this watershed there is a very wide pass called Col du Mont, used in the past by armies and for the trade of goods.
Close to Col du Mont there are still two little fortresses used during the First and Second World War. This pass is located at an altitude of 2639 meters and from it the landscape that can be admired is really gorgeous.
On 26 January 1945 Col du Mont was the scene of a dramatic accident. At that time a bunch of worker were walking to reach the mountain pass to deliver goods to the army deployed along the border.
A huge avalanche hit these worker and the soldiers that were with them. Many people died and this terrible accident is still remember nowadays. Reaching Col du Mont is not such a difficult and so long hike, but over there the environment is unique.
Sitting at the pass you can enjoy the view of the Grande Rousse massif with its glaciers and an altitude of 3607 meters. Also you can hear the sound of the alpine wind. Something that will remain in your soul forever.
