Valle d’Aosta is a small region located in the north-west of Italy on the border with France and Switzerland. The main city of this region is Aosta characterized by a long and ancient history, also linked to the dominion of Roman Empire.

The cathedral of Aosta – named Santa Maria Assunta – is worth visiting for its beauty. Its first evidences date back to the dominion of Roman Empire during the birth of Christianity. But then the building was completely rebuilt during the XI century and over the following years it was updated with different architectural influences.

The façade of the church is truly beautiful, especially the main gate with its frescoes and sculptures. The interior of the building is characterized by three naves. There are also two main chapels and a crypt located exactly under the area of the main altar.

One of the two main chapels is named Cappella di San Grato, characterized by the present of the San Grato’s reliquary. The other is named Cappella del Santo Rosario with a magnificent altar and beautiful stained – leaded – glass windows.
