Castello di Saint Pierre - Valle D'Aosta
Castello di Saint Pierre in Valle d’Aosta is a fantastic castle recently refurbished. The external structure of this building is fantastic especially for its four little turrets at the corners of the main tower. Something fabulous !
The castle was built on a very large rocky spur and near the building there is the most important church of the village of Saint Pierre, whose origin dates back to year 1000.
Differently the origins of Castello di Saint Pierre date back to year 1191 (this is the first year with some written evidence about the building). First owner of the castle was De Sancto Petro family who gave the name also to the village of Saint Pierre.
Then in year 1600, the castle passed under the control of Savoia and Challant families, who obviously updated the building according to their needs. Last owner of the building was Roncas family who transformed the castle in a magnificent palace. Nowadays the castle is under the control of Saint Pierre administration.
As often happens with very old castles, even that of Saint Pierre has no furniture, either sold or stolen over the years. Also for this reason the administration decided to use the building as the seat of the Regional Museum of Natural Sciences.
So inside the fantastic restored rooms of the castle you can have a very exciting virtual journey along the most beautiful natural places of Valle d’Aosta. You will kind of lose your mind visiting this museum with its amazing multimedia tools and movies.
Not so far from Saint Pierre village is the Saint Nicolas hamlet with its fantastic tiny church located on the edge of a precipice which dives down to the valley bottom. The landscape from this place is gorgeous, something you shouldn’t miss.
