Among these castles, a well preserved one is Castello di Fosdinovo mainly under the Malaspina dominion, a powerful family that dominated the Lunigiana land during medieval period. In this ancient period this family was well known for its belligerence.
The origins of Castello Malspina date back to XII century. Of course it is characterized by battlements, towers, prisons and rooms that legends tell are still inhabited by ghosts, souls of people tortured and killed during the ancient history of the Castle.
Nowadays the castle is still owned by the Malaspina family and for this reason some private rooms cannot be visited, but this condition has meant that over the years the furnishing inside the building has not been stolen. So visiting this ancient building is a unique experience that you shouldn’t miss. A leap back of several centuries among ghosts and strange legends !
