Capalbio - Toscana
Capalbio is a village located on the top of a hill in Maremma – Toscana region. It is close to the sea and to the Lazio region border.
First evidences of Capalbio come from year 805 with some writings of Carlo Magno. Then the hamlet was under the Aldobrandesco domain and later under the domain of Siena. During this last period Capalbio saw its best development. But then it fell under the Spanish domain with a big economic and demographic crisis followed by Bourbon family and Austrian domain.
The story of Capalbio has been very tormented as it was for whole Italia divided in several little state or even villages and dominated mainly by foreign. Here because in Italia it is possible find in few kilometres the fantastic beauty of different popular and gastronomic cultures.
Capalbio well conserved and restored, is surrounded by medieval walls that can be visited and from which it is possible to have a breathtaking landscape.
The downtown village can be reached going through the medieval walls by Porta Senese where some coat of arms and very ancient gates are still visible. Then the Rocca Aldobrandesca di Capalbio and its tower must be visited.
Last to be mentioned but not least, is Piazza Magenta. It is a jewel and during the night is magic and cannot be forgotten. From this square the Capalbio medieval walls can be reached for a walk in an unbelievable environment.
