BBOI’s team is excited to propose you this suggestive pass, situated in the heart of Gran Sasso massif, the highest one in Abruzzo.
This place it’s a sort of Paradise: a grassy upland surrounded by mountains, so calm and quiet, where peace and serenity reigns.
Campo Imperatore it’s also called the “small Tibet” because of its similarity to the Tibet plateau, this place was shaped by a big glacier 15 000 years ago, can you imagine? The perfect destination for motorbikers, cyclists, mountain lovers, skiers, campers and so on, you won’t regret your holiday here!
Did you know that Campo Imperatore was very important during the Second World War? Indeed here was imprisoned Benito Mussolini, then realesed by german soldiers.
If you want to visit this place you can start from Santo Stefano di Sessanio and cross the upland up to Fonte Cerreto, the road is fully asphalt-covered, moreover it is possible to stop in a refuge called “Ristoro Mucciante” where you can buy raw local meat and barbecue it by yourself! Don’t forget to try arrosticini, a sheep meat skewer very famous in Abruzzo and so yummy, of course you can also buy a bottle of wine and enjoy your refreshment!
BBOI team suggest you to go to Campo Imperatore during Summer in order to find good weather and open access to vehicles, besides it will be also possible to go for an hike or to camp in this incredible place.
