Brisighella

Brisighella - Emilia Romagna

In Ravenna district there is a wonderful hamlet named Brisighella, surrounded by the astonishing nature of Emilia Romagna region characterized by three rocky hills. At the top of each of them there is Rocca Manfrediana, Santuario Madonna del Monticino, Torre dell’Orologio. It should be underlined that the Brisighella territory is also characterized by the presence of chalk hills, material used mainly in the past for several constructions.

Rocca Manfrediana (Manfrediana fortress) dates back to the first part of XIV century and has defensive purposes. It was refurbished by Astorgio Manfredi during year 1457 and then by the city of Venezia in the years 1504 – 1508.

Santuario Madonna del Monticino (Church of Madonna del Monticino) dates back to year 1759. Monticino is the name of the hill where the church is located and Madonna del Monticino is a painting inside the church, with the figure of the Madonna and her child. In the past people believed the painting had miraculous powers.

Torre dell’Orologio (Clock Tower) was built as a fortress with defensive purposes together with the Rocca Manfrediana. It dates back to year 1290 and Maghinardo Pagani da Susinana strongly wanted this construction. It was rebuilt during the year 1850 but as a clock tower.

Via degli Asini (Donkeys alley) is also worth a visit. It is a very long porch which runs over the ground floor where there is the street with shops.
