Borghetto

Borghetto sul Mincio

Borghetto sul Mincio - Veneto/Lombardia border

Borghetto is a hamlet located in the district of Valeggio sul Mincio, the latter is a small city on the border between Lombardia and Veneto regions and not far from the hamlet, only few kilometres.

Borghetto was built on the Mincio river, emissary of the so famous Lago Di Garda and for this reason is a beautiful village. Visiting it could make your day a blast !

The hamlet had its main period during Middle Ages. Some of its buildings were built directly on Mincio river where also some water mills were present for the production of flour.

Very impressive is the Ponte Visconteo, a bridge over the Mincio river, built during the Medieval period – year 1393 – by Gian Galeazzo Visconti, Duke of Milano.

Ponte Visconteo had also defensive functions with its towers and fortresses. It stops at the basis of a hill on the top of which there is the Castello Scaligero. This was partially destroyed by an earthquake in 1117 year, but towers and some parts of the ancient structure are still present.

The castle dominates the two villages Valeggio sul Mincio and Borghetto and visiting it is a unique and compelling experience not to be missed !
