Bocchetta di Trona
Bocchetta di Trona is a pass located in Italian central alps, in a savage environment surrounded by several steeped rocky peaks. This pass is the conjunction between the final part of Val Varrone and Valle della Pietra. Val Varrone is a very long valley that starts from Dervio village located on Lago di Como. Valle della Pietra is a secondary valley of Val Gerola and this last starts from the bigger Valtellina.
The shorter path to get Bocchetta di Trona starts from the very tiny Laveggiolo hamlet located above Gerola Alta village in Val Gerola. The path goes through Val Vedrano to enter then in Valle della Pietra where Rifugio Trona – Soliva is located.
The first part of Val Vedrano is characterized by a big pine tree forest, but when the path turns in Valle della Pietra, the landscape with Pizzo di Trona (2510 meters) becomes really gorgeous.
At Rifugio Trona – Soliva it is possible to have a break eating Polenta with Bitto, a dish that cannot be missed especially if seated in front of the Pizzo di Trona view !
From Rifugio Trona – Soliva the path goes up to Bocchetta di Trona where Val Varrone and Valle della Pietra meet.
From Bocchetta di Trona it is possible to observe the fantastic rocky Pizzo Varrone (2325 meters) and a part of Valle dell’Inferno located at the base of the southern side of Pizzo di Trona. Valle dell’Inferno is characterized by the presence of an artificial lake, a dam named Lago dell’Inferno.
