Becca di Viou - Valle D'Aosta
We at BBofItaly have had a blast getting the top of Becca di Viou ! This mountain dominates the Aosta city and it is also on the border with Valpelline. It is 2856 meters high and the path that leads to the cross on its top, is never difficult, but fantastic.
The path starts from the hamlet Blavy where close to the church there is a parking for your car. First part of trail winds through a big forest and reaches a group of shelters called Tza de Viou, used by shepherds and their herds during the summer.
From the Tza de Viou (2200 meters high), you have to follow the path that allows you to get the flank of Becca di Viou and climbs up to the Col de Viou (2698 meters high). This pass is located between Becca di Viou and Mont Mary (2814 meters high).
Col de Viou is a fantastic meadow from which a gorgeous scenery appears to you. Here is located also Bivacco Penne Nere the bivouac was built on the edge of a overhanging that falls into some small valleys lateral to Valpelline.
From Col de Viou to the top of Becca di Viou, there is a short path, not dangerous, but only its last part must be done carefully because it runs on big rocks close to some overhangings.
The landscape from the top of Becca di Viou is unbelievable. You can admire Valle d’Aosta where the city is located, Grivola and Gran Paradiso, Monte Bianco, Grand Combin, and the mountain range that closes Valpelline.
