Bar à Fromage

Speaking about Bar à Fromage we could say it is a restaurant that makes you beside yourself ! A fantastic experience for your palate but also a unique atmosphere.

This restaurant is located in Cogne, a village of Valle di Cogne in Valle d’Aosta region.

Cogne is a pearl inside the Parco Nazionale del Gran Paradiso. This village is characterized also by the presence of a big meadow from which you have an amazing view of the glaciers of Gran Paradiso mountain (4061 meters).

Let’s say that Valle di Cogne and its main village are amazing places you cannot miss to visit !

Bar à Fromage – which means a slice of cheese – is a tiny and charming restaurant characterized by mountain style furnishing. It has few tables so it is a quiet and cozy place, but most of all its food is fabulous.

Below is the description of what we of BBofItaly have tasted at Bar à Fromage.

A welcome taste from the restaurant, accompanied by a special wine flavoured with particular mountain herbs. Unbelievable !

As first course we had two different kind of soups: Zuppa del Gran Paradiso and La Favo. The latter is pasta with green beans, Fontina cheese, tomatoes and bread croutons. The former is made with beetroots, leeks, Fontina cheese and bread croutons.

As second dish we had Polenta Pasticciata and La Boucounò. The latter one is a tasting of eight different mountain cheeses four from goat’s milk and four from cow’s milk. All these cheeses are accompanied with special jams and honey with nuts. The former one is Polenta with Fontina cheese, braised onions and brown butter.

Of course all this comes with a fantastic bottle of local red wine, named Peque Na – why not – well known by BBofItaly.

Last but not least two desserts: La Boule de Neige (Italian meringue with raspberry sauce) and Gelato fior di roccia (custard ice cream with mountain honey and Alba’s nougat). The latter really makes you beside yourself !
