Anghiari - Tuscany
Anghiari is an awesome medieval hamlet located in Toscana region in an area called Valtiberina close to the eastern border with Umbria and Marche regions. Its origins date back to VII century during Longobarda era, and it is dominated by a castle.
The hamlet is famous for the battle of Anghiari, fought between armies of Milano (Milan) and Firenze (Florence). This battle was won by Firenze, and so the dominion of Toscana on the hamlet was definitive.
In the early 1500s, the battle of Anghiari was painted by Leonardo da Vinci in Palazzo Vecchio, one of the most important palaces of Firenze. This project was never completed due to some technical difficulties encountered by Leonardo, and nowadays there are no clues about it, but only few preparatory drawings are still present.
Strolling around the alleys of this medieval hamlet is a real pleasure ! You can enjoy the old atmosphere and very ancient “Botteghe” (shops) where you can find wonderful products, many of them made by very skilled craftsmen.
In addition to these Botteghe, along the alleys of Anghiari, you can find also fantastic little restaurants, where you can savour the gastronomy of Toscana. Unforgettable wine and very tasty food.
So believe us at Best and Beauty of Italy when we say that Anghiari is nothing short of remarkable !
