Alpe Deleguaggio - Premana - Lombardia
Premana is a village located in Prealpi Lombarde, the mountain chain that is under the huge Alpi peaks present on the border between Lombardia region and Switzerland.
This village is embedded on the steep flank of a very narrow valley named Val Varrone and it is famous particularly for its knife and scissor little factories and for Alpeggi spread on the surrounding mountains.
Alpe is a little group of tiny shelters used in the past by shepherds which during the summer brought their herd at high altitudes where grass is special in order to have fantastic cheese with special flavour.
Nowadays it is very rare to find shepherds with their herds, spending summer in Alpeggi, and while still retaining their ancient characteristics, these little shelters has been restored by local people for spending weekends.
Must be said that most of these Alpeggi are now reachable by off road vehicles through white roads, but one of the last still with an old trail is Alpe Deleguaggio.
This means that goods for the normal management of Alpe Deleguaggio can be carried only in two major ways: by shoulders with a rucksack or by helicopters, but of course the second is very expensive and is used rarely. For the heaviest goods a rudimentary cableway is sometime used.
This particularity has meant that over the years the Alpe Deleguaggio has not been radically changed and so it conserves still his original charm.
The little Alpe (1690 meters) is located in Valle del Varroncello, under the top of Monte Legnone (2609 meters). Starting from Premana, the path goes up in this narrow and savage valley. Some its parts are hard because very steep, but the savage nature shows its beauty especially when the hiking track is out of forest.
Of course hiking doesn’t end at Alpe Deleguaggio. The path goes up further getting Lago di Deleguaggio, a gorgeous lake at 2096 meters that in start summer could be still partially covered by snow.
