Alassio - Liguria

In Liguria region – Savona district – there is a wonderful village named Alassio, which stretches along the gulf that takes its name from this village. The environment of Liguria is particular, because the sea is encompassed by a mountain range named Alpi Marittime. Therefore in this land there aren’t large sandy beaches but mainly cliffs that plunge directly into the sea.

The two extremities of Alassio gulf are named Capo Mele and Capo di Santa Croce. The hotshot of our tour at Alassio village, was the walkway that winds along the shore starting from the little chapel located on Capo di Santa Croce and arriving at the Laigueglia village located near Capo Mele.

The chapel of Santa Croce located on Capo di Santa Croce stands on the ruins of an ancient church built by Benedettini monks during the XI century, on a cliff overlooking the sea.

The walkway allow you to enjoy a wonderful landscape of this unique environment also characterised by the presence of the little Gallinara island. Furthermore it crosses the oldest neighbourhood of Alassio village, taking here the name of Budello di Alassio (which means “very narrow street” of Alassio).

Rambling through the alleys of Alassio is a fantastic experience. Furthermore along the Budello, you can find a lot of little shops where you can buy unique handcrafted objects and local food, like the very famous Baci di Alassio (Alassio kisses), a one of a kind pastry made with chocolate.
