Acqui Terme

Acqui terme is a spa town located in the lower part of Piedmont. It is immersed in the splendid landscapes of Monferrato which, with its vineyards, was recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2014.
The Acqui terme area was already known in Roman times and was renowned for its warm waters that flowed in the heart of the historic center. Here, even today we are fascinated by the Piazza della Bollente, where the water flows naturally at a very high temperature (be careful that you risk getting burned!).

In the surroundings of Acqui Terme there are various archaeological sites where it is possible to admire the architectural engineering masterpieces of the Roman Empire such as, for example, the remains of the Roman aqueduct and the Fontanino Acqua Marcia.

The high temperature of the water that flows from the springs (which reaches 75 ° C) is due to the high speed with which it rises from the subsoil towards the surface. The sulphurous water is rich in sodium, potassium, calcium, magnesium, chlorine and other mineral salts and comes from a depth of about 2,500-3,000 meters below the ground.

Also noteworthy is the Fontanino Acqua Marcia which can be found near the remains of the Roman aqueduct. Acqua Marcia (rotten water) is so called for its high content of sulphides which give it a pungent rotten smell. Despite the smell, these waters have a great antioxidant power and are used for specific inhalation treatments.

A walk in the center of Acqui Terme allows you to admire the splendid town and, continuing towards the outskirts, you can admire the remains of the Roman Empire. A visit to the thermal baths is also recommended, both from a curative point of view, but also for simple relaxation.
