A Skyway to Monte Bianco - Valle d'Aosta
Monte Bianco the highest European mountain – 4810 meters – is a fantastic world ! Getting there is not so easy, is not a simple walk, because of glaciers but also for the altitude that makes the effort very strong.
But arriving at Punta Helbronner – 3466 meters of altitude – by an incredible cableway, you will be truly immersed in the fantastic “world of Monte Bianco”.
The origin of this cableway date backs to the year 1948, and the idea of this daring project comes from Italian Engineer Dino Lora Totino. The old cableway connected the village of Courmayeur with Rifugio Torino and then to Punta Helbronner.
To get Rifugio Torino – the gateway to the world of Monte Bianco from the Italian side – it took seven hours of very hard walk. In 1948 with the cableway Rifugio Torino was reachable in just 10 minutes, making in this short time a difference in altitude of 2000 meters from the village to the shelter !
That was unbelievable !
The Italian cableway has been completely renewed in 2015 and now it is a super modern lift named “Skyway”.
But let’s go and see some pictures of the “world of Monte Bianco” visible by the terrace of the cableway station of Punta Helbronner.
